"This place really stood out on my visit [to the Island]. We returned here a few times and even found a favourite table in one of the heated undercover seats outside. I tried a lot of the menu, meat and fish and wasn't once disappointed, the steak was great and i'd recommend the black pepper sauce with it. The cottage pie was the best I'd ever tasted and my vegetarian girlfriend loved their homemade veggie goulash. We also had afternoon tea one day which was delicious.
The staff were very nice indeed and informative of the waiting time as we ordered. On our first night we sat inside and liked the nice calm environment and the pleasant music, but we preferred to sit on the heated outside tables as they were quite romantic and even though there were lots of families and children playing in the garden we were undistrubed in the alcove. Overall it was excellent value for great food with a brilliant setting and lovely staff who fussed over us to get the best tables."

"Best tearoom / restaurant in Shanklin!
I'll just qualify my wild and reckless statement above by saying that no I haven't tried them all BUT of the ones I tried this was the one the girlfriend and I returned to the most.
We went to Vernon Cottage about 3 times over our 3 day stay (twice in one day). I can thoroughly recommend going there for a cream tea, quiet drink in the lovely gardens (which has plenty of nice seating) or for a meal. Like the previous review I too can thoroughly recommend the steak and ale pie.
The staff are EXTREMELY helpful and curtious so a special mention should definitely go to them.
There were plenty of families with young children and pets were welcome in the garden."

"I followed my nose to this place, having read rave reviews - I'm so glad I did; chalk up another plus review for the fish cakes! I had the duo of crab and smoked fish cakes -simply fabulous and enough for a hearty meal. The steak and ale pie was also excellent. All in all a great place to eat and drink (superb Guinness)"

We always love the Isle and always eat at Vernon Cottage. This year it has new owners and new decor, the gardens are better kept than ever and food superb. The menu is so extensive it is hard to know what to have but I settled for a beautiful bit of steak with the best fries I have ever tasted. After a long walk along the beach we went back for a memorable cream tea in the afternoon sun.
